Political Awareness & Economic Development

Extending its mission globally, YAC donated $1,000 to support girls and women in Cameroon, providing hygienic supplies and reproductive education to those in need. We also contributed to economic empowerment through the following impactful initiatives:

• Financial Fitness: Hosted syndicated financial columnist Michelle Singletary for a workshop on financial fitness.
• Community Building: Volunteered with Habitat for Humanity to help build homes for local families.

The York Alumnae Chapter has hosted numerous voter registration, issue awareness, and education sessions. We will continue to lobby our legislators and organize our communities to demand social justice in all areas, including a living wage for the lowest wage workers in our communities. 

As trailblazer Shirley Chisholm once said, "If they don't give you a seat at the table, bring a folding chair." YAC embodied this spirit by actively engaging in political and social causes: 

• Voter Engagement: Conducted voter registration and education drives.
• Public Safety: Partnered with the York City Police Department to support their Gun Violence Initiative.
• Community Solidarity: Collaborated with the York YWCA for its annual Race Against Racism.
• Awareness: Raised awareness of missing and exploited Black and Brown children through a May 2024 Awareness Walk.
• Leadership: Represented the community on over 15 Boards of Directors.
• History & Education: Hosted a community lecture featuring our member, Joan Trumpauer Mulholland, a Freedom Rider, civil rights activist, sit-in participant and 2015 National Civil Rights Museum's Freedom Awardee.
